Our Souls’ Appetites

Psalm 42:1-2
As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.

Does your soul thirst and hunger and long for God like David in the Psalms? Mine usually doesn’t.

Is a child hungry for dinner after eating chocolate all day? Is a child thirsty for milk or water after drinking soda?

Like a young child, we ruin our souls’ ‘appetites’ with unhealthy substitutes- that lead to death. Like candy won’t nourish or satisfy a child in place of meat and vegetables, anything outside of Christ will not nourish or satisfy our soul’s needs.

Do you want to long for God? We must cut out what we substitute in place of Him.
