A Prayer for the Fatherless

“If you want to draw closer to Father God, get to know Jesus. But I warn you, sooner or later this path leads to the cross, which means death to your natural desires. You’ll have to give up all hope of ever receiving the love you need from another human being. This means sacrificing at last the idol’s you’ve made of your ‘loved ones’, and releasing those persons and those relationships to the Father for His cleansing and renewal.

Here’s a sample prayer to begin:

Jesus, I thank You for laying down Your life so I could come even now to the Father through You.

God, I confess that I have not known You as my Father.

And so I have felt unloved for a long, long time. I need love, Father, and I know now that only You can give it to me. Forgive me for the times I’ve manipulated, threatened, or coerced other people to give me love – and the times I gave up altogether and just resented them, instead of turning to You.

Jesus, I surrender to You. You are the way, the truth, and the life.

Here I am, Father God, Your broken son.

I need You, Father. Only You.

Pour out Your love on me, Father.”
